English Composition I

This course focused on enhancing writing abilities through systematic engagement with the writing process, including prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. It provided a framework for developing stronger compositional skills and understanding key writerly concerns.

Course Objectives & Outcomes

Throughout ENGL 101, the focus was on developing several key competencies. Students practiced the elements of strong writing and honed their ability to use the writing process effectively. Varied approaches to different writing tasks were employed. The course examined the writer’s concerns of audience, diction, and correctness, with an expectation to demonstrate understanding in these areas through written work. Emphasis was placed on conducting research skillfully, which involved finding, interpreting, evaluating, synthesizing, and effectively documenting information. The elements of effective oral presentations of written work were also practiced. Furthermore, computer technology was employed to facilitate and enhance writing and research processes.
